John Coggeshall elected Winterport school board representative, voters approve private cemetery purchase

    WINTERPORT — A special municipal election was held in Winterport Tuesday, July 30 with voters electing one person to serve on the Regional School Unit 22 school board and on a referendum question about the purchase of a private cemetery. 

    At the polls, 38 voters elected John Coggeshall as a school board representative for the town. 

    Additionally, voters passed the following referendum question: "Shall the Town authorize the purchase by the Winterport Cemetery District of the private cemetery at 103 Lebanon Road, adjoining the Oak Hill Cemetery, shown as Tax Map R12, Lot 28, established in 1898 by John C. Carlton, containing the graves of many Winterport citizens including 20 veterans and historically maintained by the Cemetery District or its predecessors, from the heirs of Beatrice Raymond for a sum not to exceed $3,000.00 approved as part of the current Cemetery District Budget."

    The private cemetery purchase referendum passed 39-1.
