Hope rollover sends one to hospital
HOPE — Firefighters in Hope were already at the station Monday night for a regular monthly meeting when they got the call to respond to a crash on Hatchet Mountain Road. When they got there, it was apparent the driver in the single-car crash was not able to get of the vehicle, which was on its side in a stand of small trees, so Hope called on its neighbors, Rockport and Union, to come to the scene with extraction equipment.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pine Point Road. Knox County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Hatchet Mountain Road along with fire and ambulance crews.
According to Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, the driver of the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo was Terrence Crabtree, 54, of Hope, and he stated he was traveling east behind a slow-moving vehicle and attempted to pass it when he lost control.
“Crabtree stated the car in front of him was going very slow, so he attempted to pass it,” said Carroll. “Crabtree lost control of his vehicle on a curve, crossed the road in a skid and crashed, rolling over into some trees.”
Carroll said that Crabtree was extricated and helped out from his vehicle by the Rockport Extrication Team and Hope Fire Department.
The driver was transported by Union Ambulance to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with minor cuts, bruises and a possible broken arm.
Crabtree was summonsed by Knox County Sgt. James Moore for driving to endanger.
