Gratitude Awards 2024-25 at Thomaston Grammar School
THOMASTON — Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for having gratitude at a school-wide assembly on January 10.
Students receiving the Gratitude Award were: Violet Dailey, Hailey Ames, Riley Blakeway, Adam Breen, James Magnoli, Anthony Diaz, Jayden Callahan, Avery Cole, Emmett DeYoung, Jayla O’Hare, Calvin Paul, Ryman Ames-Allan, Gemma Rubino, Norah Smith, Dominic Jefferson, Logan Atwood, and Quinn Blakeway.
Often, when we think of gratitude, we think of being thankful for what we have. That is a part of having gratitude, but there is much more to it. It also involves being generous towards those around us. It is the realization that each and every one of us can have a positive impact on those around us and the world. Students who have gratitude have a growth mindset. They are grateful for the knowledge they have and are always looking to learn more. They want to help others. They are polite and understanding of those around them. When people are kind to them, they really think about how thoughtful those actions were and how they may then pass that feeling on to others. People with gratitude are regularly thinking about what there is to be thankful for.
Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for showing gratitude. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses or a lunch or game with Mrs. Riley.
This month’s winners were: Ryman Ames-Allan, Noa Silverstein, Zion Peart, Katie Davis, Emmett DeYoung, and Logan McRae.
Aubree Joynt also received the Principal’s Award. Aubree is a wonderful member of the TGS community. Aubree is kind, safe, and tries her best, always. To her, this comes automatically. Aubree consistently cares about the well-being of her peers and the staff members at TGS. She works hard and is consistently respectful in her interactions with all members of the community. She shows kindness to others and makes the choice to be responsible to do what is right.
At the end of our Gratitude Assembly, we completed a school-wide game, as we do every assembly. To kick off the new year with these frigid temps, we felt it would be fitting to make some snowmen (or snowwomen)! Eighteen students were chosen and arranged into three teams. They were tasked with dressing a staff member with a jacket, hat, scarf, mittens, and a carrot nose. For the second round, students were asked to take the clothes back one by one before the snowmen melted. Miss Heal’s team won both rounds!
Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on empathy.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
