AUGUSTA — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced March 11 the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) will provide $4,567,500 to the State of Maine to support the State’s response to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

“I applaud Maine’s Congressional Delegation for their work to secure these important funds,” said Governor Janet Mills in a statement. “Although Maine does not currently have a confirmed case of the coronavirus, these funds will help us prepare for and respond to potential cases.”

“Maine CDC continues to work with partners across the state to prepare for the 2019 novel coronavirus,” said Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Nirav Shah in a statement. “These funds will bolster our capacity to respond to the potential arrival of the virus in Maine and support our efforts to protect the health of Maine people and communities. I am grateful to Maine’s Congressional Delegation for their support.”
