Elsie Gawler and Ethan Tischler at Belfast's Underground Lounge, March 20
The Underground Lounge in Belfast will present local tunesmiths Elsie and Ethan in concert on Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m. under the Basil Burwell Theatre at 17 Court Street.
Elsie Gawler and Ethan Tischler deliver original and traditional songs and tunes that come straight from the heart. The New England-based songsters bring together their unique musical backgrounds to create rich original sounds that weave together musical worlds of past, present, and a hopeful future.
Elsie and Ethan have each shared their music with audiences across New England while maintaining a deeply rooted connection to the thriving Vermont and Maine folk music communities from which they’ve emerged. Together they create a rich original sound that is alive with their love for the music they make together.
Elsie Gawler is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter rooted in Maine’s traditional folk music and culture. With her family, the Gawler Family Band, she has played throughout the state and beyond, sharing traditional fiddle tunes, songs, and original works since she was six years old. From this foundation she launched her debut solo album, Sweet As Honey. While continuing to play regularly with The Gawler Family Band, her other projects include duo Elsie & Ethan, and trio The Gawler Sisters.
Ethan Tischler is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from outside of Burlington, Vermont.
Most of all, he believes “in the power of music to bring us together and enrich our lives, no matter when and how we engage with it!” Though his principal focus in music has been singing and songwriting, Ethan performs on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo.
His present projects include leading the Youth Choir at the Belfast Unitarian Universalist Church, teaching guitar and sound recording at the Bagaduce Music Library in Blue Hill, and teaching participatory song and dance residencies at public schools through Belfast Flying Shoes.
Now in its third season, The Underground Lounge provides a comfortable, unassuming space for music lovers to gather during the long winter season. The volunteer-led group throws its passion for music and community into action from October through May, creating a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy choice Maine and New-England based performers in concert.
Admission is $10-$20 (cash only) at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Home baked goods and beverages will be available for purchase.
