Deja vu all over again for Rockport citizens

Wed, 01/24/2024 - 7:30pm

On January 25, at 5:30 p.m. in the Rockport Library, the Rockport Planning Board will present their proposals for changes to our Rockport Zoning Code.  The public is not permitted to speak at this meeting.

We all remember the last time, quite recently, that we had a town wide vote that included the proposal to restrict vacation rentals here in Rockport. That proposal by the Select Board failed by 70%.  Yet, here we are again, with several of the same Select Board members.

Moreover, a recent State of Maine Housing Needs Production Study reported on at the Affordable Housing Conference in Portland states that  "Few short-term rentals could be viable, affordable homes for the average Mainer.”

I've never seen any study or measurable facts presented on this issue by our Select Board.

Thank you for your kind attention.
