COVID cause of reduced ferry runs to Vinalhaven this weekend

ROCKLAND — The Maine Department of Transportation said May 26 that some Maine State Ferry Service trips between Rockland and Vinalhaven will be cancelled this weekend after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee's absence, coupled with ongoing staffing challenges, means the MSFS does not have enough crew members to staff every regularly-scheduled run this weekend, the DOT said.

The following trips will be canceled:

Friday, May 27, 4:30 p.m. trip from Rockland to Vinalhaven

Saturday, May 28, 7 a.m. trip from Vinalhaven to Rockland and 4:30 p.m. trip from Rockland to Vinalhaven

Sunday, May 29, all trips except for the 4:30 p.m. trip from Rockland to Vinalhaven.

Only runs on the Capt. Richard G. Spear are impacted. All runs on the the Capt. E. Frank Thompson are currently on schedule.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause our customers,” the DOT said, in a notice.
