UNION — Claris A. Tweedie, 91, passed away on February 2, 2023, with her family by her side at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Waterville on April 14, 1931. She was the daughter of Clarence and Alice Bryant Johnson. Claris graduated from Freedom Academy in 1949.

Claris had five children whom she loved dearly. When they were kids her Saturday night ritual was to have the Spruce Head neighborhood children over so she could teach them how to cook. Claris was very active in the St. George PTA in the late 50s and early 60s while her children were in school. A member of the Spruce Head Community Church, she served in the choir and enjoyed going to Bible School. She greatly enjoyed her time with the Schooner Belles Ladies Barbershoppers. Some of her other hobbies included, gardening, dancing, traveling bus tours and being with her family and friends.

Claris worked for many years at The Helm as a server and the Samoset Resort helping set up for banquets, weddings and events. Towards the end of her career, she worked with Coastal Transportation. She loved meeting new clients and making friends with all of the folks she drove for. Amazingly enough, she was still working and driving well into her 80s. She was known for her hard work and dedication.

Other than her parents, Claris was predeceased by her companion of many years, Gary Mitchell.

She is survived by her two daughters, Tenley Campbell of Clinton, and Anne Wing of Rockland; three sons, Theron Tweedie of Spruce Head, Brent Tweedie of Skowhegan, and Eric Tweedie of Thomaston, and many friends and family that she loved dearly.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service being held for Claris on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Joe and Linda Bognar residence, located at 3 Hambone County Road in Spruce Head. A spring interment will be held at Oak View Cemetery in Camden at a later date.
