CAMDEN – The Camden Police Department has a new patrol officer. Sam Butler has been promoted from a temporary status to a permanent full-time officer since he has successfully completed his field training with the department.

Butler grew up in Appleton and currently resides there. He is a graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School and Husson University with a degree in criminal justice.

As a teenager, Butler said that his family wanted him to become a game warden but he did not find this field as interesting as law enforcement.

“I developed allergies to most animals so working with them on a daily basis was not an option,” said Butler.

Butler does have a firefighter in his family, his great uncle, Mike Eugley, who is a long time member of the Lincolnville Fire Department.

“I have always had an interest in criminal justice so I am happy about becoming a permanent patrol officer with the Camden Police department.”

Butler will be attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in either August or spring, 2016.

Chief Randy Gagne said: “We are lucky to have Sam on our team. He has hit the ground running and it is great to have a full staff for the summer.”
