Camden man indicted on gross sexual assault, exploitation charges
CAMDEN — Maine State Police arrested a former Islesboro school basketball coach on 16 counts of gross sexual assault Thursday, Nov. 14, in Camden.
Detectives arrrested Travis Tatro, 30, at his home at 21 Jacobs Ave. in Camden without incident, according to a press release issued by the Maine State Police. Tatro served as the coach for the Islesboro school system for almost two years before he was dismissed in August, the release said.
Tatro moved to Camden and continues to privately coach basketball in Knox County, the release said. He was indicted Nov. 14 by the Waldo County Grand Jury in Belfast and was to make his first court appearance this afternoon, Nov. 15, in Belfast. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
In addition to the multiple alleged assault charges, Tatro was also indicted on one count of alleged unlawful sexual contact, and sexual exploitation of a minor, Maine State Police said.
The two victims in this case are two teenage girls. State police began investigating the allegations against Tatro earlier this month. Anyone with additional information in this case is asked to call State Police in Augusta, 624-7076, and ask for Sgt. Jason Richards.
