MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — The Camden Hills varsity sailing team ended their successful season by winning the Great Harbor Regatta at the Mount Desert Community Sailing Center.

Eight teams competed in the regatta, with Camden Hills winning with 40 points. Islesboro finished second with 53 points and Portsmouth finished third with 64 points.

Elliot Spear, a Rockland Community sailor, won the A division with 25 points, followed by a tie between Simon Morin of Camden Hills and Emily Lau of Islesboro at 29 points.

Camden Hills skipper Hugh Levitt handily won the B Division with five first place finishes, a second place finish and a third place finish, for a total of 11 points. Islesboro finished second with 24 points and Portsmouth finished third at 34 points.

The sailing took place at South West Harbor. The weather conditions were light to moderate with a strong current running on the course. The current was a large factor in the strategy of where the sailors wanted to be at the start and on the course of the race.

It proved to be an awesome season for the Camden Hills team as they won the Yarmouth Team Racing Regatta, the Apprenticeshop Team Racing Regatta, the state championships and the Great Harbor Regatta.
