ROCKPORT — For the second consecutive season, the Camden Hills football team is playoff bound. 

The Windjammers football squad completed the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Class C Medomak Valley and find themselves as the fourth seed in Class E, good enough to host a new-found rival in the fifth-seeded Old Orchard Beach Seagulls on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Rockport’s Don Palmer Field. The quarterfinal contest will start at 2 p.m.

Camden Hills finished 4-4 on the season, tied with three other Class E squads. However, the strength of schedule of playing up two classifications against Medomak Valley, in spite of the loss, and a September victory over third seed Maranacook aided the cause of retaining a one game home field advantage in what is a win-or-go-home scenario.

The Oct. 27 playoff contest will be the program’s first ever home playoff football game. 

“We are excited to play a home playoff game. As we continue to rebuild this program having opportunities such as this are huge,” said Camden Hills head coach Jeremy Marks. “Last week was a tough physical loss, however I think the boys will rally and try their best.”

Speaking on the rematch with Old Orchard Beach, a team that beat the Windjammers in triple overtime earlier this season, Marks stated: “We are glad we get another chance to play OOB. As a team we felt that we could have played a lot better the last time we played them.This playoff game on our home field has us feeling pretty good about who we are and playing well and getting the win.”

“This game has two objectives — prove that we are a better team than the one who lost [the previous game at Old Orchard Beach] and hopefully getting one step closer to the season goal of winning class E,” Marks continued. “This is what you work your tail off for since July. A chance to play meaningful games in late October and early November.”

Everyone, from players to coaches to fans are excited for the upcoming playoff showdown. 

“The coaching staff is really proud of our boys and we are excited to be a part of the first ever home football playoff game on Don Palmer Field,” Marks stated. “That being said, we know that this season will be a disappointment if we do not finally play up to the tremendous potential this team possesses.”
