Belfast victim in serious condition following assault by man with sword

    BELFAST — On November 26, 2022 at approximately 6:37 a.m., Belfast Police received a 911 call from Waldo County Dispatch of a Domestic Violence incident in progress. The call came in from Lawlor Lane, but it was reported that the incident had just occurred on Smart Road. The caller, who was not involved, told dispatchers that the victim came to his house needing medical attention and the suspect had followed her there. It was unknown if the suspect had any weapons.

    When officers arrived at the scene, they located a male seated in red Chevrolet SUV parked who fit the description. It appeared he was very agitated and possessed a large sword, according to Belfast Police, in a news release. He was identified as Larry Kaiser, of 18 Smart Road, Belfast.

    After an investigation, speaking the victim and witnesses, the suspect, Larry Kaiser was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault and transported to Waldo County Jail, where he remains in custody.

    The victim was transported by Belfast Fire and EMS to Waldo County General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

    “This case is still under investigation as we will be conducting more interviews and additional charges may be forthcoming,” said Chief Robert Cormier, in the release.
