BELFAST — A town team baseball organization based in Belfast is seeking additional players and is eagerly planning for the long-term success of the organization.

All adult-aged players with a desire to play baseball for the Belfast Merchants are invited to sign up. There are no fees to play for the team.

Games, in the past, have been played at Belfast Area High School though future games could be played at the Governor Anderson Field.

The game of town team baseball is when an amateur ball club represents a town, or sponsor and yields a sense of community pride in small towns.

The concept is widely popular in states like Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

“Town Team ball is really the staple of small town communities with a rich history throughout Maine,” said Gerald Murphy, who has been a prominent supporter of town team baseball in the Midcoast for many years.

Those interested in registering for the team are encouraged to call 207-299-0839.
