BELFAST — The Belfast City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting this evening, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.

Meetings begin with a roll call of Belfast Mayor Eric Sanders, and City Councilors Mary Mortier, Neal Harkness, Michael Hurley, Brenda Bonneville, Paul Dean, in addition to City Manager Erin Herbig, and Administrative Assistant Manda Cushing.

In addition to revisiting the proposed $410,000 bond, a presentation regarding the 2021-2022 General Assistance Ordinance and state-derived maximum benefits for general assistance requests will be given, followed by a public hearing on the matter and a second reading of the Ordinance.

The City Council will consider the removal of eight City trees, and request to go out to bid on two tax foreclosed homes, according to the official agenda. Additionally, there will be a request to create a City of Belfast American Rescue Plan funding account to accept American Rescue Plan funding.

The American Rescue Plan funding refers to a plan introduced by President Joe Biden as a way to deliver direct relief to the American people, rescuing the American economy, and starting to beat the virus, according to WhiteHouse.gov.

There are many facets to the plan, including investing roughly $160 billion to provide supplies, emergency response services, testing, and distributing vaccines as quickly as possible. The plan will provide $130 billion to help schools serve all students.

Working families also received a $1,400 per person check under the plan.

Belfast City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings are conducted online using Zoom and can be streamed on the City of Belfast website. They also air live on BEL TV and on Belfast Community Radio at WBFY 100.9.
