Belfast City Council to consider $410,000 bond for fuel farm project; hear request to upgrade Trap Shack office

    BELFAST — The Belfast City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting this evening, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.

    Meetings begin with a roll call of Belfast Mayor Eric Sanders, and City Councilors Mary Mortier, Neal Harkness, Michael Hurley, Brenda Bonneville, Paul Dean, in addition to City Manager Erin Herbig, and Administrative Assistant Manda Cushing.  (Click here for the city manager’s report for Oct. 5, and back-up meeting materials)

    In addition to a public hearing on a $410,000 bond, a discussion about new police cruisers, and a sewer abatement, the meeting will conclude with the Council entering an executive session to talk about a legal matter.

    Topics of discussion for the meeting include multiple requests for approval submitted by various local businesses, including Satori and Bowen’s Tavern. Both Satori, located at 108 Main Street, and Bowen’s Tavern, located at 181 Waterville Road, are seeking renewal for their liquor licenses.

    The Otis Group Inc., doing business as Rollie’s Bar & Grill, is requesting approval for an off-premises catering permit for a public Nordic Aquafarms Thank You Party event. 

    There are multiple business items listed, including a presentation “regarding the proposed issuance of a general obligation bond to be issued by the City of Belfast to a lender in a principal amount not to exceed $410,000 (the “Bond”), the proceeds to be used for the purpose of paying all or a portion of the costs associated with the design and construction of the Jet A Fuel component of the fuel farm at the airport owned by the City and facilities, equipment, or both functionally related and subordinate to the foregoing (the “Project”), according to the meeting agenda. 

    There will also be a public hearing regarding the same issue, in addition to discussion and possible action. 

    Pedestrian access at Congress Street and Wales Park will also be discussed during the meeting. 

    Requests from the Harbor Master to spend up to $3,100 to replace the gas and diesel fuel hoses at the harbor will be heard.   A further $9,160 is requested to replace the windows, insulate, and install a heat pump in the Trap Shack Office, where the Deputy Harbor Master will have office space over the winter.

    Belfast City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings are conducted online using Zoom and can be streamed on the City of Belfast website. They also air live on BEL TV and on Belfast Community Radio at WBFY 100.9.
