WARREN – The State Fire Marshal's Office has charged a young man from Warren in connection with a fire that burned down a camp in Warren in April.

Fire investigators say 20-year-old Thomas Sawyer and two boys, ages 14 and 17, went to the property in the early morning hours and set the camp on fire because they were ‘bored,’ according to a news release.

According to investigators, on April 6, Sawyer and two teenage boys set fire to the seasonal camp of George Gibson, of Stoughton, Massachusetts. The camp was located on the Clements Point Road, which is along the St. George's River. It had been owned by the Gibson family for years before being destroyed by the fire.

Sawyer is charged with arson. He was told of the charges Friday at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset, where he was being held on unrelated burglary charges.

No charges have been lodged against the teenagers at this point.

The sheriff offices in Lincoln and Knox counties assisted in the investigation, according to Fire Marshals.
