A Feast (and a Treat) for Buyers at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries on November 11-13

THOMASTON, ME:  On November 11, 12 & 13, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will present “Autumn Majestic”, with an amazing inventory of fine art and decorative rarities harvested from estates and collections through Maine and the Northeast.

Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux said: “Our last big sale of the year offers items for every taste and desire. It’s a sale not to be missed.”

On Friday, the sale will offer a large selection of contemporary and vintage home furnishings and a special treat for live, in-house bidders who purchase items on that day. A “5% discount - Cash and Carry” offer will be extended to in-house buyers who pay for and remove items from the gallery by the end of the auction on Friday, November 11. Among the many outstanding decorator furnishings to be sold on Friday will be pieces by Thos. Moser, Maitland-Smith, Drexel Heritage, Hancock & Moore, Ethan Allen, and others.

On all three-days, the auction will present a large selection of fine oil paintings, including: an abstract expressionist painting by Zao Wou-Ki (France/China, 1920-2013) in flame red heavy impasto and with sand texture; a work by Louis Remy Mignot (NY/SC, 1831-1870) depicting the beautiful glow of a sunset; and a Gloucester harbor scene by Jane Peterson (MA/NY/KS/IL, 1876-1965).

The sale will also offer five paintings by Dahlov Ipcar (ME/VT, 1917-2017), most depicting artfully arranged images of animals, such as “Malaysian Jungle” depicting a tiger, leopard, peacock and other animals in an Asian tropical forest setting.

A charming figural 1930s-40s ink drawing on a 78-record sleeve by outsider folk artist Bill Traylor (AL, 1854-1947) that has been authenticated by Traylor and folk art experts, will be sold.

Additionally, there will be works by Marguerite Zorach (NY/ME/CA, 1887-1968), Ivan Aivazovsky (Russia/Ukraine, 1817-1900), Asher Brown Durand (NY/NJ, 1796-1886), Cundo Bermudez (FL/DC/Cuba/Puerto Rico, 1914-2008), Frederick Judd Waugh (NJ/MA, 1861-1940), David Johnson (NY, 1827-1908), and many others.

Featured from the folk art and marine categories will be: a monumental 19th Century eagle form ship’s figurehead, a vintage 16-foot long Maine crafted Old Town canoe, and an Amish-made locomotive form weathervane.  Also, there will be selections of sailor’s valentines, scrimshaw, trade signs, and ship models.

Other items of interest will include: a 106-piece set of Tiffany & Co. “Flemish” pattern flatware, Picasso Madoura pottery limited edition platter; 2 Daum Nancy art glass boudoir lamps; an early 20th Century Louis Vuitton steamer trunk; 19th Century tea caddies; Omersa leather animal form ottomans; and a variety of early 20th Century Tiffany Studios bronze desk items.

On Sunday, a wonderful selection of Danish and American midcentury furniture will be offered, such as a Papa Bear chair and ottoman by Hans Wegner and an Eames chair and ottoman by Herman Miller; plus contemporary bench-made custom pieces by Stickley, Green Design (Portland, ME), Eldred Wheeler and others.

Also on Sunday, five estate automobiles will be sold, including: a 1985 Porsche 928S, 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible, 2011 Ford Edge, 2000 Volvo C70 convertible, and 1989 Ford LTD Crown Victoria station wagon 

Rounding out the sale will be great collections of fine jewelry & watches, Asian antiques, firearms & militaria, and oriental carpets.

The auction will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST each day.  All lots can be viewed at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ website, www.thomastonauction.com.The gallery will be open for previews from Monday thru Friday, October 31 through November 5 (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.); Saturday, November 6 (10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.); and Monday through Thursday, November 7 through 10 (9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).  Previewing will also be available on auction days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 11, 12 & 13, from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
