Penobscot Bay YMCA CEO Melissa Bellew will discuss childcare gaps in Midcoast Maine at Camden Rotary Club’s Zoom meeting at noon Tuesday, May 11.

Bellew’s talk is the ninth in a series the club is hosting on local economic and workforce development challenges. It will cover the soaring need for childcare across Maine, particularly in the Midcoast.

As Bellew states, “Childcare is a critical component of our state’s infrastructure and workforce development.”

With 28 years of experience as a public defender and private legal practitioner, Bellew has shared her knowledge about Maine’s childcare gaps with local councils and select boards, state legislative committees, and federally with Maine’s congressional delegation.

Camden Rotary Club is exploring many aspects of economic and workforce development, from career opportunities and career tech education to measures for increasing access to broadband and affordable housing. The club’s website at includes recordings of all the talks in this series.
