Woody was born in Caribou, Maine on September 16, 1928, the son of Forest P. and Faye (McNeal) Greenier, and he grew up in Presque Isle.

He attended Ricker College, graduated from University of Maine and served as LT. in the Medical Company of the 187th Regimental Combat Team, in Japan and Korea, and then in The Reserves, where he obtained the rank of Captain.

In 1955, he married Nancy Littlefield of Calais, Maine, and they had three children. He was employed by Dead River Company, where he served in management for thirty six year in Houlton, Presque Isle, Washburn, Bath, Rockland and Augusta. He retired in 1991.

During those years, Woody was active in the Rotary Club in each of those communities, as well as the Kiwanians in Augusta. In Bath, he served as President of the Rotary Club and President of the United Way.

Woody liked the out-of-doors, enjoying hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with his family, and then cross country skiing with Nancy in later years. He was a competitor who enjoyed all sports. He was an avid bowler in many leagues in various areas. For over sixty years, he was a competitive golfer. He was a charter member of the Presque Isle Country Club, and an active member of the golf courses in Bath, Rockland and Augusta. He was a member of the Maine Seniors Golf Association for over twenty five years, where he served as a Director and as President. In 2000, he was recognized by the Maine Golf Hall of Fame¬¬ as the Maine Seniors Champion for that year.

Until very recently, he was able to really have active fun with his grandchildren. In his retirement years, Woody was a tax preparer, a volunteer tax preparer for AARP and, just to keep himself busy, he drove cars for a dealership.

Through the years, Woody and his wife enjoyed many trips together in the U.S., including Hawaii, and also in Scotland, (including playing golf at St. Andrews ! ) England, and Switzerland. Their favorite "retirement spot" was St. Simons Island, GA, where they vacationed for 17 winters.

Woody is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; son, Paul (Skip) Greenier, of Harrison, daughters Jane (Paul) Pierce of Hope and Beth (Ed) Simmons of Buxton; as well as his Swiss (Foreign Student) son, Andreas Ruch of Zurich; five grandchildren, and one one Swiss grandson; five great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Griffin of Presque Isle, Marilyn Bartlett of Lindenhurst, ILL, Donna LaValley of Bernardston, MA, and Andrea Hicks of New Port Richey, FL; brothers, Paul of Monmouth, Peter of Mapleton, and Bob of New Port Richey, FL, as well as a very special sister-in-law, Launa Greenier of Monmouth. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Libby.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, Rockland. A military burial will be held at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville for all extended family members and friends.
