BELFAST — A Searsmont man has been ordered to serve 90 days in jail and pay $12,000 restitution for operating under the influence July 29, leading to a car wreck that left his passenger trapped in the vehicle and seriously injured.

Albert D. Rhodes, 46, will also have his license suspended for 150 days, his registration suspended, and must pay a $500 fine for operating under the influence.

Facing four charges as a result of the wreck, Rhodes was convicted of operating under the influence and driving to endanger.

For driving to endanger, he was also ordered to spend 90 days in jail, in addition to having his license suspended for 90 days, and a $575 fine.

One charge of operating under the influence (involving injury), and a charge of aggravated driving to endanger were dismissed.

Rhodes was determined to be operating under the influence at the time of the wreck, which occurred on New England Road in Searsmont.

The vehicle Rhodes was operating left the roadway, rolling over and leaving his passenger with serious injuries, though Rhodes escaped uninjured.

After the passenger in the vehicle was freed they were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight of Maine, for treatment of broken bones and internal injuries.
