Thomaston Public Library is about to launch its fourth year of 40 Days of Summer. Beginning Monday, June 19, school aged children are invited to join in myriad activities and eat lunch without charge for one day, 12 or 40! No pre-registration is required and children from neighboring communities or those visiting are encouraged to join in.

The volunteer coordination of this program and the most generous donation of time and talent speak to this community's desire to offer children a vibrant summer experience. This year the theme is all about connections: community, playing and team building, reading and creative arts, learning and experimenting, loving our environment and awareness of our place in the global society. This year the library is also offering two exciting programs for slightly older kids. For those 12 and up, come and work with a real Hollywood film producer to make a Zombie movie. For young writers and meetings on Mondays, the library is offering creative writing coached by a published author to launch sci-fi, fantasy, mystery or whatever. Begin that book and sign up at the library or for more information call the library at 345-2453.

In addition to these special programs, the library will once again welcome Chewonki Foundation, Pope Memorial Animal Shelter, Northern Stars Planetarium, antique cars from Owls Head Transportation Museum, picnics with grave rubbings, scavenger hunts and the history of local spots. The Thomaston Police and Fire Departments will visit, as will the puffins from Rockland, bees, sharks and really too much to mention.
