In honor of Dylan Meklin, a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy who was lost at sea Oct. 1 aboard the cargo ship El Faro, Governor Paul R. LePage has ordered all U.S. and State of Maine flags on all public buildings and grounds in Knox County to be lowered through sunset on Sunday, Oct. 25.

"We continue to pray and keep in our thoughts those aboard the El Faro, including our five Mainers. The first lady and I are deeply saddened by this loss of life and our hearts go out to the families and friends of our fellow Mainers, as well as all the other crew members," said LePage, in a news release Friday.

A memorial service for Meklin, 23, of Rockland, will be held Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. Meklin was a 2010 graduate of Rockland District High School and he was a member of the Class of 2015 at Maine Maritime Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Systems Engineering and obtained his unlimited U.S. Coast Guard license.
