Popular Church Supper at Camden Church Scheduled for June 6
Event has passed
At 5:30 on Saturday, June 6, the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, will host another of its public bean and casserole suppers. Regulars have learned to arrive early to assure a place since seating is limited.
During the day on Saturday, the bubbling beans fill the hall with a wonderful aroma as the homemade pies are being brought in and the coleslaw being assembled. The long tables are set and coffee set to brew, then a collection of steaming casseroles is delivered from the homes where they were prepared by seasoned cooks, who are skilled in preparing macaroni and cheese, chicken, pasta corn and clam casseroles. Other volunteer cooks come along with a wide variety of salads, jellied, green, spinach, bean, potato and macaroni to name a few: a wide variety to please all palates.
Back to the pies: the “resident pie lady” bakes such choices as mincemeat, multi-berry, strawberry-rhubarb and apple. Several other bakers provide coconut cream, chocolate cream, pecan, blueberry, lemon and cherry varieties.
Cost for the meal and good company is $8 per person, $5 for those aged 12 or under.
The public should be aware that the July supper will NOT be held on July 4, but will be on July 11.
