Harold Greeley, obituary
AUGUSTA — Harold Ernest Greeley, 81, of Freedom, passed away May 6, 2015, at Togus VA Hospice Center in Augusta. Harold was born Sept. 9, 1933, to Rose (Pottle) and Ernest Greeley. He was the oldest of two sons.
Harold attended Freedom Academy in Freedom and graduated in 1951. In 1956, Harold was drafted into the Army and deployed overseas to Germany. He remained in the Army until 1958, when he received an honorable discharge.
Harold was a hardworking man. He started working at Banton Brothers right out of high school and worked there until 1954. He worked a short time for Monmouth Canning Company before starting work at Marriner's Dairy in 1959, delivering milk. In 1965 Marriner's Dairy was bought out by Grant's Dairy, where Harold worked until he retired in 1995.
Harold married the love of his life, Viola Overlock, and the two have been married for 61 years. Harold and Viola have three sons: Roger, Bruce and Gary. Harold was a life member of Liberty Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Freedom Grange for more than 40 years.
Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Viola; his sons, Roger and his wife, Sue, of Albion, Bruce and his partner, Teresa, of Knox, and Gary and his wife, Kristi, of Albion; and his loving grandchildren, Jennifer Greeley, Kristi LaCroix, Ben Greeley, Alex Poulin, Trisha Poulin, Alyson Greeley and Colby Greeley. Harold also had five loving great-grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Trott, and Sierra, Sarina and Maks LaCroix. Harold also leaves behind his brother, Roy Greeley and his wife, Sandra, of Knox, their three children, Kim, Kelly and Kevin, and their families. Harold was predeceased by both his parents.
Friends and family are invited to gather for memorial visiting hours that will be held Thursday, May 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast, where a memorial service will be held Friday May 15 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom.
The family would like to thank Lakewood Nursing Home staff, abd the nurses and doctors at Maine Center for Health in Augusta, along with Chaplain Dave and all of the staff at the VA Hospice and Palliative Care Unit.
