Lincoln Academy squeaks past Oceanside girls

NEWCASTLE — The Lincoln Academy varsity girls basketball team hosted the Oceanside Mariners Friday night and pulled out a very close 47-45 victory over the guests. 

With the victory, Lincoln Academy improves to 10-4 and sits in third place in Western Class B. Meanwhile, the Lady Mariners fall to 10-4 and sit in eighth place in Eastern Class B. Both teams are in line to advance to the playoffs. 

Scoring for Lincoln Academy were Brie Wajer (18 points), Danielle Pinkham (10 points), Leslie Sandefur (five points) and Olivia York, Avae Traina, Alyx York and Taylor Oliver (two each). 

Scoring for Oceanside were Makenna Brooks (14 points), Payton Billingsley (nine), Ashley Gardner (eight), Jillian Brooks (five), Kalyn Grover and Ari Curtis (four each) and Alexis Davis (one). 

Next up for the Lady Mariners will be a home contest against Camden Hills that will tip at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. Lincoln Academy will travel to Belfast the same day and time.
