Waldo County Sheriff’s beat: financial theft, bridge rescue
On Dec. 17, the Waldo County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from a resident of Troy indicating that an unauthorized charge had been made to a bank debit card. Deputy Dan Thompson began investigating the complaint, assisted by Detective Dale Brown, and learned that Heidy Tirado, 37 years old, of Fairfield, who worked at New Horizon's Health Care Facility in Unity, had allegedly obtained credit and debit card information from several patients and had used it to apply for credit and make online purchases totaling more than $1,000.
Tirado was arrested for Class C, Theft Dec. 19 and taken to the Waldo County Correctional Center, where she was later released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

On Dec. 22, at approximately 9 p.m., the Waldo County Sheriff's Office received several complaints of a vehicle parked on the Penobscot Narrows Bridge with its lights off. Deputies Kyle Wasiela and Kevin Littlefield responded to the complaint.
When deputies arrived they found that members of the Prospect Fire Department were already on scene and had secured an intoxicated 36-year-old female that was claiming she wanted to jump from the bridge.
Deputies assisted with restraining the female as she was struggling to free herself from the fire department personnel. The young woman was transported by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center for evaluation.
