GLEN COVE — Fred Gersbach, 80, passed away Nov. 13, 2014, after a short illness. Born April 18, 1934, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., he was the son of Frederick Joseph and Sara (Moog) Gersbach and was a graduate of Wayland High School in Wayland, Mass.

In January 1964 he married Marjorie Mary McQuaid and they celebrated almost 50 years of marriage before she passed away in October 2013. They moved to Glen Cove in April 1986, after Fred retired from GTE Sylvania, after 24 years of service, as a scale model maker in Waltham. Fred worked for about 13 years part time at the Glen Cove post office, where he became a familiar face to most of Glen Cove's residents.

He loved building things, taking photographs and working in his two greenhouses. He also loved playing golf, which he did for many years as a member at Goose River.

Surviving are his two daughters, Hydie M. Richards of Lenoir, N.C., and Tamra G. Connor and her husband, Michael, of Bellingham, Mass.; two grandchildren, Sydney Faye Connor and Joshua Lee Richards & his wife, Brittany, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a great-grandson, Mason Lee Richards; his brother, Roger Gersbach of Framingham, Mass.; and a cousin, Gail Spear of Camden.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Pen Bay Medical Center and Windward Gardens in Camden for the extraordinary care given to Fred.

Following his wishes, there are no public services planned.

If desired, memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 Twenty-Fourth Street, NW; P.O. Box 97180, Washington, DC 20090-7180.

Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
