Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies searching for missing inmate from Lincolnville
BELFAST — Tyler Malmstrom, of Lincolnville Center, allegedly left the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center in Belfast Thursday night without permission, and is now being sought by police in Waldo and Knox counties.
Malmstrom, 23, left the Reentry Center’s recreation yard in Belfast shortly before 9 p.m. July 10, and is considered an escaped individual. A team of investigators from Sheriff’s Offices in both counties is working on the case.
According to the Waldo County Sheriff Scott Story in a press release Friday, Malmstrom was recently admitted to the Reentry Center to complete the last five months of his sentence for an aggravated assault case related to a bar fight incident in Vinalhaven in 2012.
“He is not believed to be armed and dangerous and we do not believe him to be a threat to the community, however, as with any escaped inmate, we would ask that if he is seen, or if anyone knows his whereabouts, please contact local law enforcement,” said Story in the release.
It was also noted that Malmstrom left a note allegedly apologizing to the staff of Waldo and Knox counties, as well as the courts and his family for his actions.
Malmstrom is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information about Malmstrom or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Waldo County Sheriff's Office at 338-6786 or the Knox County Sheriff's Office at 594-0429.
