Wednesday Community Workdays in May

Thu, 04/24/2014 - 6:00am

An acre of conserved farmland in Rockport will have numerous vegetables growing on it by August, but until then the land needs to be prepped for growing. Volunteers are needed to help with ground preparation and property maintenance at Erickson Fields Preserve on Rt. 90 so that the vegetables can make it to people’s plates in the summer and fall. Some of the people who will receive these vegetables are folks that go to the Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry in Rockland and the Camden Area Christian Food Bank in Camden. Others include students at all three Camden Rockport Schools as well as residents of Quarry Hill Retirement Center.

Join the new Farm and Program Manager, Aaron Englander, at the Preserve for three Wednesday’s in May from 3-6pm to assist with the grounds preparation, planting, and to learn more about the growing operation there. Contact Aaron at aenglander@mcht.org to let him know that you will be there on May 7, 14, or, 21 (or all three Wednesdays)! A pot-luck will take place after the work at 6pm, so bring a dish to share and your own plate and utensils.

Erickson Fields Preserve is a conserved 93-acre preserve owned and managed by Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT). Other growing programs taking place on the property include Kids Can Grow, the Teen Agricultural Crew, and community gardens.
