Roger Jones, obituary
ST. GEORGE — Roger Leroy Jones, 70, of St. George, died suddenly in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2013, at his home in St. George.
Born in Rockland Aug. 4, 1943, he was the son of Leroy Alden and Elizabeth Olive Heard Jones. He attended school in Owls Head and at Rockland High School; after which he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a seaman first class on the USS Diamond Head. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Returning home and getting married, he chose to become a commercial fisherman, fishing out of Rockland, and New Bedford and Gloucester, Mass., until ill health forced his retirement.
Roger was predeceased by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Glenn Jones; plus his two doberman dogs, Cody and Mason, that he loved dearly.
Roger is survived by his partner and soul mate of 10-1/2 years, Marion Gleason of Skowhegan, who he met many years ago. They both had married, but as time went on, they both lost their spouses in 2002, and by the grace of God, they were reunited and had a wonderful life together.
Roger is also survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell; two grandsons, Derik Campbell and Darren Campbell, both of Brampton, Otario, Canada; a son, Nathan Jones of Portland; a stepson, Lloyd Gray; his cousin, Eleanor Nash of South Thomaston; and his dear friends, Lance and Kathy Wotton of Friendship. Roger is also survived by Marion's family, who loved him dearly and he was called “Daddy Rog.” Many good times were had with them, including Cathy and Jeff VandenHeuvel, Lee and Carolyn Hutchinson, and Jeff, Jodi and Joshua Michaud, as well as his dear cat, Tabby. He will be missed by them very much. Roger made many friends in the Skowhegan area and was liked by all who met him. He will be missed by his friends in the Rockland area, too.
Roger loved life, as well as hunting, fishing, smelting, going to auctions, long rides, eating out, playing pool, beano and shopping.
There will be a graveside service in the spring at the Jones family lot in Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.
Donations in Roger's memory may be made to either Pope Memorial Humane Society, P. O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841 or St. George Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P. O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.
