Join Megunticook Rowing’s Learn to Row (LTR) program. It's a four-class learning experience designed to teach the basics of rowing on the water. This program is open to anyone, 12 years old and up, and no rowing experience is required!
LTR sessions will primarily introduce the sculling style of rowing, where each rower has two oars, one in each hand. LTR includes one land (to practice rowing movement on rowing machines) and three on the water sessions where you will learn:
- Proper rowing technique
- Equipment Handling
- Safety procedures
- Rowing Terminology
Once you complete the Learn to Row program you are officially a Novice rower and can become a member of Megunticook Rowing for the discounted rate of $50 for your first summer on the water. You will also be eligible to participate in coached Novice Team sessions offered throughout the summer.
2025 Summer LTR Sessions will be offered:
- M, T, W, Tr 8:30am to 10:30 am, every week starting June 9, 2025;
- T, W, Tr, Fr 5:30pm to 7:15pm every other week starting June 17, 2025 and;

We are excited to welcome not one but TWO new coaches to Megunticook Rowing! Kathryn (Kali) Brown joins us from St. Lawrence University – the feedback from her first week on the job has been so positive. She is a major addition to our program. Bob Van Twyver starts June 9th. Bob brings a special interest in starting new rowers so we are expecting a significant upgrade to our Learn-To-Row program thanks to him and Kali. They’ll be joined by our dedicated part-timers Sam Abbott and Andy Obst, as well as Megunticook Rowing alumnus Cabot Adams. We’re going to have a lot of great sessions this summer with this team!
