Alan Lee Blackington, obituary
WALDOBORO — Alan Lee Blackington, 50, beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, boyfriend, and dear friend to so many passed away peacefully early on the morning of May 3, 2025 far too soon after a brief and extremely courageous battle with cancer. Alan was born on June 21, 1974 at the Knox Hospital in Rockland to Charles (Chuck) Blackington and BillieJo (Beej) Closson.
Alan was a 1993 graduate of Medomak Valley High School and over the years he worked for places including, Brooks Trap Mill and Jeff's Marine before becoming an HVAC technician, culminating in his most recent career with Colby & Gale, Inc. in Damariscotta. He was an extremely valued hardworking member of their team and is deeply missed as both a friend and mentor. This past fall he achieved his goal of becoming a Master Oil Burner Technician and had dreams of having his own HVAC business one day (ALB HVAC) where he would be able to help those less fortunate.
Over the years Alan enjoyed hunting with Big Guy (Steve Leppanen), fishing with his father and Big Guy, reading the Wheel of Time series, music, writing, working on his Chevelle "Chelly", spending time with family and friends and attending ‘Fest on The Hill’ at Harry Brown's Farm every year where he will also be greatly missed. His biggest passions included riding his motorcycle, doting on his grandsons who were his 'whole world’, and spending time with his girlfriend Corey. For the past 10 years playing 8-ball and 9-ball pool in the APA leagues has been a huge part of his life. He made many cherished friends and was very proud to be MVP, taking 1st place in the current 9-ball league session.
Alan is survived by his treasured girlfriend, Corey Fougner; his father, Chuck Blackington and his wife Jan; stepfather Tony Closson; sisters, Niki Norwood and her husband PJ, Sara Tourgee and her husband Matt; his sons, Kabien Gardner-Pratt, Alec Blackington and his girlfriend Anna; and his grandsons, Mavrick and Magnus. He also leaves behind countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, his four-legged companion ‘Tonka’ who misses him so much; and too many wonderful friends to list.
Alan is predeceased by his beloved mother, Beej Closson, who recently passed on April 3, 2025; his step-father, Richard Libbey; paternal grandparents, Ella Mae Philbrook and Edward Blackington; and maternal grandparents, Gloria Smith and Bill Winslow; as well as his cousin and lifelong best friend, Steve ‘Big Guy’ Leppanen.
Alan touched so many lives and had so many people that he loved and that loved him as deeply in return. The light of the world is dimmer without him in it. He will be remembered and missed for his smile, his hugs, his humor, his willingness to drop everything and lend a helping hand, shoulder or ear to anyone anytime.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a future date.
