ROCKPORT — George's River Trout Unlimited (GRTU) members Troy Curtis and Steve Hirshberg will present “Secrets of Fishing the St. George River”, Tuesday, May 13, in Rockport.

With over 30 years of combined experience fishing GRTU’s namesake river, Curtis and Hirshberg have considerable wisdom to share, according to GRTU, in a news release. Their presentation aims to help experienced fly fishers who are new to the area, as well as beginner fishermen, women and children, looking to learn how, when and where to productively fish the St. George River for Brook Trout, Brown Trout and other species. Information on a follow-up chapter outing planned to the St. George River (May 18) will be also presented. 

Curtis is the current CEO and General Manager at Maine Sport Outfitters in Rockport and is responsible for purchasing all Fishing Department products for the business. He has been fly fishing for the past two decades with an average 75 days on the water each year. While he has fished extensively throughout the country, catching wild brook trout and salmon in his home state of Maine is his passion.   

Hirshberg is a past board member of the Georges River Land Trust, current GRTU board member and GRTU’s delegate to the Maine State Council of Trout Unlimited. Hirshberg learned to fly fish at a summer camp in Casco, Maine at age 9. 

The GRTU meeting May 13 will be held upstairs in the fly shop at Maine Sport in Rockport. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. with “Trout Talk,” an informal gathering for those who wish to visit before the presentation. The formal meeting and featured presentation begin at 7pm.

GRTU conducts a raffle directly following the speaker.
