The Womps to perform at Underground Lounge music series
BELFAST — Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m., Belfast’s Underground Lounge will present funky New England-formed fusion rock band The Womps.
"The Womps is a group that’s unique in its innovations, familiar in its rock n’ roll roots, and passionate in its improvisations," said the Underground, in a news release. "The band takes listeners on an eclectic journey of colorful songwriting, reinventing the music at every performance. Band leaders Jason Lilly (drums, guitar, and vocals) and Kailey Zercher (violin and vocals) are performers who inspire performers of all ages to become, like themselves, their own creators, no matter what others tell them is or isn’t possible."
They have appeared at the Harry Brown’s Farm for the Ganja Grail Festival, Freeport Fall Fest, Marshfield Fair, Jamaica Plains Porchfest, and StART on The Street in (Worcester, MA) festivals. They have also played in legendary night spots such as The Lizard Lounge in Boston, Nietzsche’s in Buffalo, Ghenghis Cohen in LA, and The Stone Church in New Hampshire. The Womps were also artists in residence at Fury’s Publick House and Blue in Portland, Maine.
The Womps has performed or collaborated with Danny Bedrosian and Secret Army (members of George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic), Ben Taylor, John Forte, Tyler Adams (The Jauntee), The Rumpke Mountain Boys, Hawthorne Heights, Pitti Hecht, and Stu Kimball.
Their most recent releases include live studio album Mad Science, which exemplifies the breadth of flow through improvisation and songwriting, and their accompanying live video sessions recorded at Chillhouse Studios in Charleston, Massachusetts.
