Barry A. McCormick, obituary
UNITY — Barry A. McCormick, born March 3, 1953, age 72, of Unity, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on March 5, 2025.
He was born in Waterville, Maine to the parents of Albert and Barbara (Hamlin) McCormick. He graduated from Mount View High School before entering the work force as an independent contractor and later as an owner/operator in the grocery industry.
In 1971 Barry married his high school sweetheart, Vera (Dodge) McCormick in Jackson, Maine. After settling in Brooks their two daughters, Robin and Amy, were born. Barry was a compassionate, caring and at times a ‘no nonsense’ father, coach and mentor for his daughters and the youth of the community.
Barry thoroughly enjoyed the role of being a grandparent; many happy memories were created with his five grandchildren Jackson, Lucas, Gunnar, Elizabeth and Anna.
He shared many a pup cups with his beloved golden doodle, Oliver.
Barry had a strong work ethic as evidenced by his many business endeavors including the local grocery stores in Brooks, Unity and Fairfield. His most recent achievement being rejuvenating the community convenience stores: The Depot Country Store, Albion MiniMart and the Hilltop Store. He was also involved with the revitalization of the Moosehead Train Station.
Barry was an active member of the Masons, Star in the West #85 and Faith Community Church.
Barry was passionate about hunting and passing on his knowledge to younger generations. He frequently sponsored the local youth sports teams, providing them with uniforms, pizzas and ice cream.
Barry was preceded by his parents; sister Lisa Wren; brother and sister in law Delbert Dodge and Marcella Gibbs.
He is survived by his wife, Vera McCormick; daughters Robin and Amy McCormick; grandchildren Jackson and Gunnar Martin, Lucas, Elizabeth and Anna Ford; brothers Michael and Blaine McCormick their significant others Connie and Brenda; brother and sister in law Wayne and Brenda Gamage; Marshall and Kit Dodge as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at the Clifford Arts and Student Center, 42 Depot Street, Unity on March 22, at 1 p.m. Those who wish may make donations in Barry’s name to The Open Door PO Box 116 Unity, ME.
