Rockport Conservation Commission to host November workshop on ecosystems, climate change
The Rockport Conservation Commission will host a workshop November 6 in collaboration with FB Environmental, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and Camden Hills Regional High School. The workshop will focus on local ecosystems and the impacts of climate change.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with an outdoor session at Maine Coast Heritage Trust's Erickson Fields, followed by a discussion and presentation at 5 p.m. in the Hatchery Commons at Camden Hills Regional High School. Participants will learn about FB Environmental’s field methods and preview a developing Story Map that highlights features such as forests, water quality, rivers, coastal resources, and potential areas for ecosystem services. All ages are welcome, including residents and students from neighboring towns with similar ecosystems. Refreshments will be provided.
This workshop is part of a Climate Action Grant awarded to the Rockport Conservation Commission by the Maine Governor's Office on Policy, Innovation, and the Future, which is funding several vulnerability assessments and events.
The work complements the RCC’s ongoing talk series, “Taking Action on Climate Change: What Can Rockport Do?”, which addresses local climate change challenges and resilience strategies.
The series will resume in February at the Rockport Public Library, featuring a new lineup of speakers and events, including a climate-focused concert by the Halcyon Quartet on March 30 at the Rockport Opera House. The RCC provides the community with information to foster sustainable responses to climate change and ensure a thriving future for Rockport’s next generations.
