WALDOBORO —  Three new community members have recently been elected to serve on the Board of Directors at The Waldo Theatre, in Waldoboro. Shanna Castner, Buffy Hull and Samantha Wheeler were unanimously voted onto the Board in January.

Shanna Castner has worked for First National Bank for 23 years and is currently a Retail Loan Administrator responsible for residential lending in Waldoboro and the surrounding area. She enjoys volunteering for events and coaching her daughter’s softball team when she was young. As her children are getting older, she began to look for something to do with her time that involved a more permanent position. After learning more about the Waldo, she says it was an easy decision to join the board as The Waldo Theatre has been part of Waldoboro’s community for so long and is rich with history. She looks forward to contributing her time and energy to keeping the Waldo open so it can continue to make a positive impact on the community for years to come.

Castner lives in Washington with her husband, Gary, and their children.

Buffy Hull is a lifelong resident of Midcoast Maine, raised in Brunswick and currently residing in Thomaston, with a background in traditional wooden boatbuilding and currently pursuing a career in the healthcare space. After a chance visit in 2022, they quickly fell in love with the beauty and history of the Waldo and became involved. As a recent member of the Waldo Theatre family, they co-curate the Waldo After Dark cult film series with partner Samantha Wheeler. When not at the Waldo, they enjoy spending their time with their three cats and dog and exploring the stranger corners of New England, as well as discovering new and intriguing content to bring to the Waldo's film program.

Samantha Wheeler is a health care professional and Southern California transplant with an intense love of cinema and physical media from all over the world. Wheeler grew up on her working class father’s vinyl record collection and his love of film and TV of the 60s and 70s, and her stay-at-home mother’s very nearly complete Stephen King library and penchant toward media of the 80s and 90s. All of which stoke her passion for incorporating alternative film and music into The Waldo’s programming. Together, Wheeler and her partner, Buffy, originated the Waldo After Dark film series showcasing cult film classics.

The Waldo Theatre is located at 916 Main Street, Waldoboro, ME 04572. To find out more about Waldo events and to learn more about how you can become involved in this vibrant theatre, please visit thewaldotheatre.org.
