BRUNSWICK — For the next several weeks, Maine Department of Transportation crews will be performing maintenance work on the bridges that connect Route 196 with the northbound side of Route 1 in Brunswick.

Work on the bridge that connects Route 196 to the northbound side of Route 1 is scheduled to take place between Monday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Detoured traffic should take Route 1 south to the Maine Street exit to get back on the northbound side of Route 1.

Work on the bridge that connects northbound Route 1 traffic to Route 196 is scheduled to take place between Thursday, April 21 and Monday, May 2. Detoured traffic should take Pleasant Street and Bath Road through Brunswick before getting back on the southbound side of Route 1 at Cooks Corner.

Signs will be posted along all detour routes. Message boards will also be positioned on Route 196 west of the junction with I-295 and Route 201 north of Route 196; these boards will encourage travelers to use I-295 south to Exit 28 to Route 1 north.

While this work will be day work, each bridge will remain closed around the clock until the work is finished.

“MaineDOT thanks the members of the traveling public for their patience and understanding while our crews complete this importance bridge maintenance,” said MaineDOT, in a news release.
