ELLSWORTH — Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital welcomes Brittany Nurmukhamedov, CNM and Summer Oakes, CNM to its Women’s Health practice in Ellsworth.

“Both with exceptional training, Brittany and Summer will join the highly skilled women’s healthcare team made up of Certified Nurse-Midwives and OB-GYNs,” said Northern Lights, in a news release.

After working for several years as a critical care registered nurse in different large hospital settings, Nurmukhamedov received her master’s in nursing from Frontier Nursing University’s Nurse-Midwifery program. She is passionate about women’s health care issues and is a “strong advocate for access to high quality care for rural communities,” according to Nurmukhamedov. She brings extensive nursing experience to Maine Coast and has an interest in caring for women and their families throughout their lifespan for gynecologic and childbearing needs, with an emphasis on underserved and rural populations. 

Oakes began her journey to midwifery as a birth doula and directed a non-profit volunteer doula organization in Austin, Texas before attending the Yale School of Nursing where she earned her MSN in nurse-midwifery. After graduation, she worked at an out-of-hospital birth center in Massachusetts for two years before returning to Connecticut to practice at Yale New Haven Hospital for the last four years. She enjoys “supporting women through pregnancy and birth and providing continuity of care for their other reproductive and women’s health needs.”
