ROCKPORT — In a rare development, Santa Claus and all the Elves at the North Pole are setting up Christmas letter postal boxes around the world, including Rockport.

Santa and his reindeer scouted the globe, and decided that for the Midcoast, the box should present easy access for all children to get their letters posted, and for the Reindeer Letter Squad to pick them up, all in time for Christmas Eve.

Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley said he is honored that the North Pole contacted Rockport as a possible site. It has been several years since a local Santa Letter Box has been situated here.

“They are the ones who reached out to us for help, and we said we could do it,” said Peasley. “Not everyone has internet and not everyone has access to email, and Santa does like reading letters, especially this week and next.”

The Santa Letter Box is right outside the Rockport Fire Department door, and letters to Santa can be dropped in it at any time.

The Reindeer Letter Squad will be making regular stops to pick them up. They do not have a regular schedule, and they move very quickly, so we may not be able to see them, according to a news release from the North Pole.

They are, however, “hard at work,” said the North Pole.

It is known that Santa likes drawings, as well, so artwork, along with letters, is more than welcome.

The Rockport Fire Station is in the Rockport Public Safety Building on Main Street, Rockport, just off of Route 1.
