ROCKPORT — The 15th annual Serving to End Hunger tennis and pickleball event was unable to be held this year at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport due to the pandemic, though the spirit of giving was not abandoned. 

In fact, the 2020 edition of the fundraiser raised more money for global, state, and local agencies than in years past as the tennis and pickleball players, as well as families, friends, and the Midcoast community contributed generously.

The Meyer and Chase families are grateful for this outpouring of contributions and the assistance of Craig Wilson, Director, of Midcoast Recreation Center, as part of its mission to support local needs.

The total amount raised, including matching funds, is now over $31,000, and donations are continuing to be accepted as they come.

The agencies receiving donations are: ELCA World Hunger, Good Shepherd Food Bank, and Area Interfaith Outreach. 

AIO was also the recipient of 175 lbs. of food and household items collected by the staff of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in Camden.

“We look forward to resuming the in-house tournaments in 2021,” said MRC Tennis Director Seth Meyer. “After 15 years of ‘Serving to End Hunger’ we are continually amazed by and grateful for the strong support of the community in this effort.”
