PORT CLYDE — Herring Gut Learning Center promotes Sally Crusan to Coordinator of Development and Marketing. Crusan has been part of Herring Gut’s staff since May 2019 as executive assistant. In addition to her current role, Crusan now coordinates all development and marketing efforts.

Herring Gut Learning Center helps students, educators, and communities learn about ocean and climate literacy and sustainability – today and into the future.

LEARN - DISCOVER - GROW are words Herring Gut embraces. When Herring Gut’s local/partner school districts started remote schooling due to Covid-19, they stayed true to their touchstones of LEARN - DISCOVER - GROW, according to Herring Gut, in a news release. They learned new virtual platforms to effectively interact with students and partner organizations. They discovered when faced with unprecedented challenges, it is okay to feel overwhelmed. They discovered determination, compassion, collaboration and kindness of educators globally as resources were shared and advice was sought and given. They grew their networks, skill sets, relationships and so much more.

“Herring Gut has an important story to tell and Sally looks forward to increasing Herring Gut’s audience,” said the Learning Center.

Crusan has volunteered and worked for numerous nonprofit organizations and was director of Annual Giving for Catawba College where she cultivated relationships and managed appeals with alumni, parents and the local community. She was a founding board member of the Community Care Clinic of Rowan County, which for over 25 years has provided medical care to the underserved and uninsured. She is past-president of the Framingham Creative Arts Council and fundraising and special events volunteer at Waterworks Visual Arts Center, Danforth Museum, Lyman Allyn Art Museum and Ogunquit Museum of Art.
