SEARSMONT — University of Maine Cooperative Extension invites local farmers, service providers and agricultural stakeholders to the 2025 Maine Pasture Walk Series, an opportunity to explore and learn at five working farms throughout the state. The second stop in the free series will be Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m., at Faithful Venture Farm, 17 Borough Rd., Searsmont.

On Wednesday, June 25, at 6 p.m., the Rockport Public Library will host the next program in their deliciously educational “foodie” series. Part-time commercial fisherman John Painter will discuss how the New England fishing industry is developing innovative strategies for addressing climate-change-related challenges — specifically, the proliferation of the invasive green crab.

Painter’s talk, entitled, “Turning the Tables on Green Crabs,” will be about green crabs; how they got here, what they’re doing here, and why it matters.

Maine Cancer Foundation recently awarded five Cancer Screening grants, totaling $380,000. These two-year grants will increase access to necessary cancer screenings across the state.

David Marchessault was recently promoted to Executive Chef at Quarry Hill and Regional Executive Chef (Maine and Vermont) of Unidine, Quarry Hill’s dining services provider. CAMDEN — Professional sailor, offshore veteran, and sailing journalist Ronnie Simpson has joined the Lyman-Morse Brokerage Division.

CAMDEN — United Midcoast Charities (UMC) is taking a new approach with this month’s LEARN@UMC workshop. Instead of a traditional professional development session, UMC is dedicating the time to what many nonprofit leaders have said they need most: a moment to pause and care for themselves.

On Tuesday, June 18, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., UMC invites nonprofit staff and partners to use that time for self-care in whatever way works best for them—whether that’s a walk outside, quiet reflection, time with a pet, or simply stepping away from technology.

An ordinance amendment that would provide language specific to Rockland Police Department's handling of immigration was defeated City Council members during a June 9, 2025 vote. The ordinance, #35 Chapter 2, Sec 1308, Federal Immigration Enforcement, was aimed to create a new section to Chapter 2, Police Dept, establishing clear guidelines for how to interact with federal authorities.

Councilor Kaitlin Callahan brought the idea to the City agenda, which, after several months of discussion and vote postponement, ultimately met defeat in a 2-3 vote (York, Lachman, Kalloch).

BRUNSWICK — MaineHealth showcased its newly renovated behavioral health center on the MaineHealth Parkview Health Center campus at an official ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
