DATE CHANGE: Camden's public launch ramp at Steamboat Landing scheduled for rebuild, April 28 through May 15
UPDATE — Because another layer of permit requirements has surfaced, the plan to install new ramp infrastructure at Steambnoat Landing in Camden has been delayed until APril 28 through May 15. Apparently, FEMA is required to complete an historical/environmental analysis before the project is able to procedurally proceed.
Camden is replacing its 25-year-old public launch ramp at Steamboat Landing with new and larger concrete planks, and the town is closing public land there from March 27 through April 12 to get the job done.
The new planks are considerably bigger and measure 5-foot by 15-foot and weigh 5,630 pounds, said Camden Harbor Master Steve Pixley.
Camden had multiple meetings with FEMA after the last three major storms and the secured a grant to help rebuild the launch ramp.
“The more prevalent and stronger storms, as well as flooding, is the problem,” Pixley said. "The system being replaced was installed in 2001."
That was Pixley's first year as Camden Harbor Master.
All boaters are advised to find other access during the replacement. The town apologizes for the inconvenience.
