AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated COVID-19 confirmed and probable case data by ZIP code.

With the data update, the Maine CDC continues to urge all individuals in Maine — resident or not — to abide by all established COVID-19 guidelines whether cases are within their particular ZIP code.

    Since the last update:
04438 increased from 6-19 cases to 20-49 cases
04496 increased from 36 cases to 39 cases
04563 increased from 6-19 cases to 20-49 cases
04572 increased from 20-49 cases to 50-99 cases
04645 increased from no cases to 1-5 cases
04841 increased from 91 cases to 102 cases
04843 increased from 38 cases to 41 cases
04849 increased from 33 cases to 34 cases
04856 increased from 32 cases to 37 cases
04860 increased from 1-5 cases to 6-19 cases
04861 increased from 30 cases to 42 cases
04862 increased from 36 cases to 41 cases
04864 increased from 59 cases to 70 cases
04915 increased from 109 cases to 113 cases
04951 increased from 1-5 cases to 6-19 cases
04974 increased from 21 cases to 25 cases
04981 increased from 20 cases to 22 cases
04988 increased from 15 cases to 19 cases

Do not rely solely on ZIP Code data when making decisions on what you should or should not do amid the pandemic, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said Oct. 28, during a COVID-19 update briefing.

“While interesting and informative, the ZIP Code data is not a tool to calculate risk of engaging in certain activities,” said Dr. Shah.

The Maine CDC noted there are three exceptions to the data release to ensure compliance with its privacy policy: case counts are suppressed in ZIP codes with fewer than 50 people; exact case counts are suppressed in all ZIP codes with five or fewer cases; in counties where total case counts are low enough that ZIP code data could indirectly reveal the identity of a case all ZIP codes in the county are suppressed. Furthermore, the Maine CDC sometimes will build in delays of data releases to protect patient privacy.

As per Maine CDC guidance, the below table is sorted by ZIP code since some ZIP codes could span multiple towns. As such, Maine CDC noted the data should not be directly broken down by town and referred to instead by ZIP code.

As of Jan. 21, Knox County has recorded 529 cases since March; Waldo County has recorded 444 and Lincoln County has recorded 414.

The below data was last updated Jan. 20 by the Maine CDC using data as of Jan. 17. Data updates are provided once per week, on Wednesdays or Thursdays, by the Maine CDC.
