AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated COVID-19 confirmed and probable case data by ZIP code.
With the data update, the Maine CDC continues to urge all individuals in Maine — resident or not — to abide by all established COVID-19 guidelines whether cases are within their particular ZIP code.
Since the last update:
04496 increased from 66 cases to 72 cases
04841 increased from 190 cases to 198 cases
04843 increased from 67 cases to 74 cases
04849 increased from 64 cases to 72 cases
04856 increased from 69 cases to 73 cases
04861 increased from 66 cases to 69 cases
04862 increased from 67 cases to 72 cases
04864 increased from 111 cases to 114 cases
04915 increased from 183 cases to 190 cases
04974 increased from 39 cases to 43 cases
04988 increased from 31 cases to 39 cases
Do not rely solely on ZIP Code data when making decisions on what you should or should not do amid the pandemic, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said Oct. 28, during a COVID-19 update briefing.
“While interesting and informative, the ZIP Code data is not a tool to calculate risk of engaging in certain activities,” said Dr. Shah.
The Maine CDC noted there are three exceptions to the data release to ensure compliance with its privacy policy: case counts are suppressed in ZIP codes with fewer than 50 people; exact case counts are suppressed in all ZIP codes with five or fewer cases; in counties where total case counts are low enough that ZIP code data could indirectly reveal the identity of a case all ZIP codes in the county are suppressed. Furthermore, the Maine CDC sometimes will build in delays of data releases to protect patient privacy.
As per Maine CDC guidance, the below table is sorted by ZIP code since some ZIP codes could span multiple towns. As such, Maine CDC noted the data should not be directly broken down by town and referred to instead by ZIP code.
As of April 14, Knox County has recorded 925 cases since March 2020; Waldo County has recorded 798 and Lincoln County has recorded 792.
The below data was last updated April 21 by the Maine CDC using data as of April 18. Data updates are provided once per week, on Wednesdays or Thursdays, by the Maine CDC.
