The Penobscot Bay YMCA has submitted the following:

The Penobscot Bay YMCA had a successful Boat Auction this year despite the challenges of the COVID-19 restrictions, raising over $46,000 for our Y’s summer camp scholarship program. While restrictions of public gatherings meant the onsite auction event was cancelled, the Y’s volunteer boat auction committee sold twenty-nine boats online via the Y’s website, word of mouth, member e-newsletters, and social media.

There is a special sale now for the four remaining boats. Interested buyers can stop by the Y's Lily Pond property on 120 Union Street in Rockport to check them out. Any one of the boats can be purchased for $1,500 – a price well below their estimated market value. If interested in buying a boat for this price, please email boats@penbayymca.org.

We need boats for our 2021 auction, an auction that will maintain the very successful online 2020 system in addition to a return to onsite purchasing. New or old boats such as sail, power, dinghy, kayak, canoe, skiffs, rowing shells, paddleboards, and surfboards are now being accepted.  If interested in donating any of these, please contact the Y and someone from the Y will stop by and make sure the boat is suitable, and arrange for transportation to the Y at no expense to the donor.

The Boat Auction is the Y’s annual, major fundraising event that sends kids to summer camp. Proceeds from this event support families in our community, now more than ever. The mission of keeping the Y accessible to everyone regardless of financial capacity is anchored firmly in our commitment to social responsibility.
