William “Bill” Timchak, obituary
SEARSPORT — William “Bill” Timchak, 87, of Searsport, Maine, died at Harbor Hill Nursing Home on October 15, 2024.
Born in Port Chester, New York to William and Elizabeth Timchak, he was the third of six children: Stephen, Betty, twin sister Irene, Rose, and Joan.
He had a wonderful childhood and shared his great memories with his children and grandchildren. He loved baseball and was an avid NY Giants fan and NY Mets fan. Bill was a talented artist and loved drawing, photography, making home movies, watching classic movies including a favorite “It’s a Wonderful Life,” working in his yard, and fishing.
After graduation from Greenwich High School in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the Nike Missile installation near Detroit, Michigan and was honorably discharged after two years of service.
After serving, he worked for the Homelite Company and the United States Postal Service. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Andrea and they married in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1960. They bought a home in Cos Cob, Connecticut where they raised their five children.
Bill was a co-owner of Mill Bridge Liquor in Byram, Connecticut until 1991 and started a painting and wallpapering business serving Fairfield County, Connecticut.
He was involved in his community coaching baseball and volunteering with Boy Scouts, school and church functions, and an underprivileged youth organization.
Bill and Andrea moved to Stratford, Connecticut for 14 years then in 2006 moved to Rockland, Maine where they restored their beautiful victorian home and gardens. Bill worked for Dominion Enterprises in Rockland, Maine and retired in 2018. After his beloved Andrea passed away in 2012, Bill adopted a sweet dog and enjoyed volunteering for the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum.
Bill was a wonderful father and grandfather and would do anything for his family. He was kind, generous, and had a great sense of humor. He loved a good meal, especially seafood! He was a wonderful neighbor and his yard and flower gardens always brightened the neighborhood. He will be remembered by all who had the great pleasure of knowing him.
Bill was preceded in death by wife Andrea, daughter Catherine, father William, mother Elizabeth, brother Stephen, and sisters Betty and Joan.
He is survived by sisters Irene and Rose; son Michael and wife Jana; daughter Joyce and husband Bob; son Stephen and wife Emily; daughter Jeannine and husband Chris; as well as grandchildren, Tommy, Jessica, Brooke, Wyatt, Ethan, Annie and Jake and a great grandchild, Jack.
A burial service will take place Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Sea View Cemetery, in Rockport, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in William Timchak’s name to Owls Head Transportation Museum.
