STOCKTON SPRINGS — Wayne A. Smith, 80, of Stockton Springs, Maine, passed away on March 3, 2024, at his residence. Born August 20, 1943 in Bath, Maine to Dorothy and Otis Smith Sr.

Wayne held Maine close to his heart growing up in Kittery and finally landing in Sandy Point and Stockton Springs, Maine 40 years ago departing Orono after graduating from the University of Maine. He and his lifelong partner and wife of 61 years, Beth Smith, vowed never to move back south of Waldo County and maybe just maybe go further North. Instead when choosing not to be employed they roamed North, Central, and South America together often to the befuddlement of their children by van when possible, and by backpack when not.

Wayne previously taught elementary school and later managed job placement for adults deciding to take one of those placements himself at Hamilton Marine where he worked for more than 15 years before retiring. To family and friends Wayne was a jack-of-all-trades but preferred to hunt and fish rather than finish most projects. He was loved by many.

He traveled the roads as a teenager in his red MG convertible to his more settled years in his survival van of one type or another until settling within his comfortable world of dementia where he could continue to gaze out into the world of wonders. Wayne tread softly in the world and loved his family. He now travels in his new adventure in the wider universe.

He leaves his son Kelly Joel Smith and family along with treasured grandson Hunter of Orrington, Maine and daughter Heather Courtney Smith and husband of Marianna, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by a brother, Otis Smith Jr. of Liberty, Maine and family; and extended family of deceased brother Raymond Smith, formerly of Kittery, Maine.
