AUGUSTA – The Maine Warden Service and Operation Game Thief are seeking information from the public on the illegal killing of a female moose this month.
Game wardens received a call in reference to the dead cow moose, which had been shot and left to waste on the edge of 12 Mile Bog Road, an ATV trail, in Rockwood Strip T2R1. The area is located in the state's Management Zone 8, in northwestern Maine, around Jackman.
The Warden Service said that no cow moose permits were issued for Zone 8 this year.
Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or prosecution of those involved in illegally killing a moose, according to the Warden Service Tuesday.
The cow moose was discovered off the trail, covered up with tree boughs.
Anyone with information related to this case or any other illegal hunting activity is asked to call either Operation Game Thief, 1-800-ALERT-US (callers can remain anonymous) or the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office dispatch at 564-3304.
